The Region’s world-renowned hospitals and medical schools are catalysts for tremendous growth in the life sciences with the commercialization of medical technologies, vaccines, and other products. A recent example includes Isoprene Pharmaceuticals, Inc.- part of University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)'s New Ventures Initiative (NVI) program – being awarded a two-year, $2M Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant by the National Cancer Institute. The grant will be used to develop oral therapeutics for triple negative breast cancer and other cancers.
