A Baltimore City native and Baltimore County resident, Captain Beverly Burns received numerous awards and commendations, including the Amelia Earhart Award and an award of recognition from former Baltimore City Mayor William Donald Schaefer. She is credited with "opening doors for millions of American women" and being a role model for all people who dream of becoming a pilot. In 2020, the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was named the top North American airport in its size category in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards by Airports Council International.
