Friday Fact: Silo Point
Presenting Vol. 3 of EAGB's series: FRIDAY FACTS. This week's special:
The EAGB's office location was once the largest grain elevator in the world.
The Baltimore & Ohio Locust Point Grain Terminal Elevator, built in 1923-24, was at the time of its completion the largest & fastest grain elevator in the world. Trains brought massive amounts of Midwestern grain to put on ships for global distribution. In 2009, the building was repurposed into Silo Point, with some of the most attractive commercial and residential units in the city.
Adaptive re-use sites like Silo Point and Tradepoint Atlantic tell us that if we creatively build on our past - in this case, literally - Greater Baltimore can reach ever-new heights. Today, Baltimore remains a powerhouse in logistics, with the Region home to the #3 FTZ in the nation for imports (FTZ #74, Business Facilities, 2019).
