EAGB Friday Fun Fact:The Baltimore Sun and the old Baltimore American confirm that the Ouija board has its origins in Baltimore

Time for EAGB’s Fun Fact Friday - Archival evidence found in letters to The Baltimore Sun and the old Baltimore American confirm that the Ouija board has its origins in Baltimore. According to published articles about the subject, the game "Ouija, the Egyptian Luck Board," was coined in 1890 by Helen Peters, a woman known by her family as a spiritual medium. After the game grew in popularity, boards were also produced in Downtown Baltimore and historical records show that demand was steady with factories opening for its fabrication first on South Charles Street and then in Little Italy. With a long and storied history, Baltimore has been on the forefront of many innovations that have changed the U.S. Fast forward to today, Greater Baltimore continues to celebrate its legacy as a Region of Firsts through developments that are happening in key industries. Learn how these industries continue to put the Region on the map in EAGB’s Industry Profiles https://www.greaterbaltimore.org/data/our-industries, and check out Baltimore Magazine’s article to learn more about the Ouija board’s origins and history.
