Bloomberg Philanthropies and Johns Hopkins University launch a $150M Initiative to Boost STEM

Bloomberg Philanthropies and Johns Hopkins University have launched the “Vivien Thomas Scholars program,” a $150M initiative to increase the diversity of Ph.D. students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math fields). The initiative aims to create a pipeline between HBCU’s and Johns Hopkins that includes Morgan State University and University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Greater Baltimore, and Howard University, Morehouse College, Prairie View A&M University, and Spelman College. The initiative will fund tuition for up to six years, add 100 openings for diverse Ph.D. students at JHU, and provide mentorship, research and professional development opportunities, health insurance and more.
