A 2020 study by the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation (ITIF) ranked Maryland #3 in manufacturing output. The “State New Economy Index report uses 25 indicators to measure the extent to which state economies are knowledge-based, globalized, entrepreneurial, IT-driven, and innovation-oriented. From 2014-2019, the Baltimore MSA has experienced a 27% growth in manufacturing GDP and from 2015-2018 the state saw a 5% increase in manufacturing employment, outpacing the U.S. and neighboring states.
